Whitworth Plays Southwestern to Scoreless Draw
Sept. 2, 2007

SAN ANTONIO - Whitworth University controlled much of the action on the field, but could not find the back of the net in a scoreless draw with Southwestern University Sunday morning in a match played at Trinity University.

Barnam made six saves

The battle of Pirates (both teams' mascot) went unsettled as Whitworth goalkeeper Scott Barnum (So., Fall City, Wash.) earned his first career shutout by making six saves. Michael Ross and Ryan Tasin combined for the shutout in goal for Southwestern, making five saves.

Whitworth had much of the possession, outshooting Southwestern 17-9. But the Texas school did pull of a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Elly Bulega had Whitworth's best scoring chance in overtime, but his shot was saved by Tasin. Barnum made a pair of saves in the extra time.

Whitworth (0-1-1) will return home looking for its first victory of 2007. The Pirates host NAIA power Simon Fraser on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
