Complete box score and play by play WALLA WALLA, Wash.- (From Whitman SID Office) Playing its final home game of the season, the Whitman women’s soccer team succumbed to Whitworth 3-0 on a cold and rainy Friday night in Walla Walla. Earlier in the season, the two teams had played to a 0-0 tie in Spokane. Whitman controlled the first half of play, amassing 11 shots to six for Whitworth. Sophomore Kristen Berndt had a great chance 15 minutes into the match, but her shot from inside the box was deflected wide by Whitworth keeper Jenn Miller.
The Pirates seized the momentum with less than six minutes remaining until intermission when Ashley Fisk’s shot from 30 yards clipped the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the netting. It was Fisk's team-leading seventh goal of the season. Whitworth added an insurance goal in the game's 64th minute when Whitney Ramsey headed a cross from the right side of the field into the left side of the goal. It was her third goal of the year. Both teams took three shots on goal in the second half. Whitman junior Sammie Arthur slipped a shot by the keeper midway through the second half, but the goal was disallowed on an offsides call. Whitworth added its final goal with just two seconds remaining. Meghan Hudson corralled a corner kick and scored five yards out. Hudson finished the year with four goals. Miller made six saves to shut out the Missionaries for the second time this season. It was the senior's seventh shutout of the season and her 23rd of her career. Ashley Troxel had two assists for the Pirates. The Missionaries slipped to 9-6-3 on the season and 7-5-3 against conference opponents. Whitman finishes its schedule Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at Lewis & Clark in Portland. Whitworth ended its season Friday with records of 8-8-3 overall and 7-7-2 in conference.
