Complete box score and play by play McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- (From Linfield SID Office) Injury depleted Linfield upset regionally ranked Whitworth 2-0 Saturday in Northwest Conference women’s soccer. Linfield broke a string of three straight shutout defeats with a spirited Homecoming effort and improved to 5-8-2 overall and 3-7-1 in conference standings. Whitworth, which was ranked sixth in the Western Region of NCAA Division III this week by the National Soccer Coaches Association, fell to 5-6-3, 4-5-2. Linfield scored both goals in the second half. In a precisely executed play in the 59th minute, Caitlyn Jordan made a cross from near the left baseline to Chelsey Stoltz, who one-touched a 10-yarder from left of the goal into the right corner. In the 84th minute, Amber Calcagno kicked in a loose ball from eight yards after it bounced over the head of a Whitworth defender. Although no one scored for the first 58:42, Linfield got off four good shots in the first 5 minutes of the game: a true 30-yarder by Chelsey Stoltz was caught by Whitworth keeper Jenn Miller, the first of a team-leading five shots by Kate Franklin was a whisker wide and Amber Calcagno’s slow-developing 12 yarder was deflected by a defender. Ashley Fisk, Whitworth’s main threat, hit the far post in the 32nd minute, got the rebound and shot just wide. Shortly afterward, Linfield goalkeeper Allison Cartmill saved a good shot by Marissa Williams, who led Whitworth with four shots. Cartmill, who made six saves, stopped a 1-on-1, head-on shot by Whitney Ramsey 9 minutes into the second half and Whitworth had two other good chances off corner kicks after Linfield’s first goal.
