Complete box score and play by play SPOKANE, Wash.- (From Scott Churchill, Whitworth SID Intern) It was a battle of defenses as Whitworth (7-6-3, 6-5-2 NWC) edged out 17th-ranked Pacific Lutheran University (10-5-1, 8-4-1 NWC) 1-0 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
The only goal of the game came at 103:37 in the second overtime off a header by Kara Tisthammer, the assist going to Whitney Ramsey on a cross from the right side. Neither team was able to gain an advantage in scoring during regulation, even with the Pirates taking 15 shots and the Lutes taking 11 of their own. What PLU lacked in shots, they compensated with corner kicks. The Lutes totaled seven corner kicks while Whitworth only had one. Pirate keeper Jenn Miller saved five shots and PLU keeper Alyssa Blackburn had to make three saves. Pacific Lutheran continues conference play
