SPOKANE, Wash. -- It was a long Sunday afternoon for all the teams at the Whitworth Women's Soccer Invitational as both games went into overtime. Cal State East Bay lost in overtime to Whitman by the score of 2-1, while Whitworth and Chapman tied 1-1 in double overtime. With the tie on Sunday, the Chapman Panthers clinched invitational championship with a record of 1-0-1 after yesterday's victory over Whitman. The Panthers were fortunate to come away with a tie after Whitworth out shot them 33-9, including a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal. But goal keeper Jaclyn Burris saved the day for the Panthers by making 14 saves. Whitworth (0-1-1) scored first when Meghan Hudson received a pass from Ashley Fisk on the left side of the keeper box where she proceeded to float a shot over Burris and into the left side of the goal 13:07 into the match. Twelve minutes later, Chapman retaliated with a goal of their own by Shari Lambert, assisted by Megan Oksendahl. Neither team scored for the remaining 85 minutes. Cal State East Bay had a chance at the tournament championship after Saturday's win over Whitworth, but fell to 1-1 for the tournament after losing to Whitman in overtime. The Pioneers are now 1-1-1 for the year. With the win, the Missionaries improved to 1-1 on the season.
