Four Pirates Earn Academic Honors

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Three Whitworth women's soccer players have been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division women's soccer team, while another player has been selected to the second team.

Jael Hagerott (RS Jr., MF, Spokane, Wash. - Mead), Greta Thibodeau (Jr., F, Juneau, Alaska - Douglas) and Penelope Crowe (So., F, Bellingham, Wash. - Bellingham) were First Team selections, based on nominations and voting by regional college Sports Information Directors.

The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing. Sarah Brogden-Thome (RS Jr., Spokane, Wash. - Lewis & Clark) is the Pirates' Second Team Honoree.

Hagerott has scored seven goals and added one assist this season, totaling 15 points. Four of her goals have been match winners, the highest total on the team. Hagerott has a 3.99 grade point average as a kinesiology major.

Thibodeau leads the Pirates in scoring this season with eight goals and five assists (21 points). She is the leader in both categories. Thibodeau is a pre-physical therapy major with a 3.84 GPA.

Crowe is the Pirates' third leading scorer with five goals and four assists (14 points). She has played in all 18 matches this season. Crowe is a double major in spanish and biology with a 3.90 GPA.

Brogden-Thome was a key anchor on the Pirates' defensive line before suffering a late season knee injury. She helped play a key role in seven shutouts during Whitworth's first 15 matches. Brogden-Thome is an accounting and business management major with a 3.51 GPA.

This group has helped the Pirates post a record of 11-5-2 this season, with one match remaining.

Hagerott, Thibodeau and Crowe are all now candidates for CoSIDA's Academic All-American College Division team.
