SPOKANE, Wash. -- Greta Thibodeau scored twice within the first 15 minutes to lead Whitworth to a 2-0 win over visiting George Fox in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
Whitney Ramsey slotted a pass to Thibodeau on the right side and Thibodeau got around one defender before firing a shot into the lower left corner past Bruin keeper Jessica Cardwell seven minutes into the match. Thibodeau scored her second goal of the match off of a corner by Penelope Crowe at 13:03. Thibodeau now has three goals this season. Whitworth outshot George Fox 13-4, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Cardwell finished with six saves for the Bruins. Whitworth's defense, led by last week's NWC Defensive Player of the Week Kimberly Mitchell, was strong and goal keeper Leah Motz only had to make one save to post her second consecutive shutout. Whitworth improved to 3-0-1 overall and 1-0 in the NWC this season. The Bruins fell to 2-2, 0-1. Whitworth will host Willamette at noon on Sunday, while George Fox travels to Walla Walla to play Whitman College. Go to Athletics Home Page > Women's Soccer > Sports Releases > |
