Hagerott connected to the left side of the net in the 92nd minute as the Pirates (5-1-1, 3-1-0 NWC) took control of the ball from the opening kick of the extra period. The effort capped a dominating performance on the offensive end in the final 47 minutes. Whitworth outshot the Boxers 10-1 in the second half and 17-5 for the match, but put only six opportunities on goal.
Despite the offensive disadvantage, Pacific (2-3-2, 0-3-1 NWC) had strong chances in both halves. Laura Hill had the Boxers best opportunity of the match early, pulling a shot wide form just five yards out in the sixth minute.
Whitworth nearly put its first goal in at the 75 minute mark. Erin Nakasone was able to get a head on a corner kick only to watch the ball hit the far post and ricochet out. A second chance shot at close range went right to the hands of goalie Shannon Tillman to end the threat.
Tillman finished with five saves as the Boxers dropped their third straight match. Whitworth netminder Leah Motz made four saves in the victory.
Whitworth returns home to Spokane and will host Pacific Lutheran on Saturday at noon, followed by a Sunday match against Puget Sound. Pacific will host Lewis & Clark on Wednesday.
