Thibodeau Tallies Twice to Lift Whitworth to Win
Oct. 21, 2006

SPOKANE, Wash. -- (From Blake Timm, Pacific SID) Greta Thibodeau's goal with 43 seconds left kept Pacific from forcing overtime and a chance for a win Saturday as the Boxers fell to Whitworth 2-1 in Northwest Conference women's soccer action at the Whitworth Soccer Field.

Thibodeau scored twice for the Pirates

Thibodeau scored her second goal of the match unassisted to keep the Pirates (10-2-2, 8-2-1 NWC) in contention for the NWC title, placing a ball high and well above the head of Pacific goalkeeper Shannon Tillman from outside of the penalty area.

The loss was the 10th in a row for the injury-riddled Boxers (2-10-2, 0-10-1 NWC), and the second in three matches where Pacific lost by one goal. The Whitworth defense kept the Pacific offense away from the goal most of the match, outshooting the Boxers 23-3 and allowing only one shot on goal.

Thibodeau opened scoring for Whitworth just 1 minute, 16 seconds into the match after Katy Jones put a strong ball to the right post, allowing Thibodeau to finish to the left corner of the net.

Whitworth maintained the 1-0 lead into halftime before Meghan Fredette made Pacific's one shot on goal count. Fredette moved around a Whitworth defender on the right side, shooting across the crease to find the left corner for the game-tying goal in the 59th minute.

Tillman finished with seven saves, while Whitworth netminder Leah Motz did not make a save in the victory.

The Pirates will host Linfield on Sunday afternoon at Noon.
