ORANGE, Calif. -- Whitworth's women's soccer team is headed back to Spokane undefeated after earning a 1-1 tie against UC Santa Cruz in a match played at Chapman University on Sunday afternoon.
The Pirates went 1-0-1 against UCSC and Pomona-Pitzer, a pair of teams that won 24 combined matches last season. Whitney Ramsey scored the Pirate goal in the 59th minute. It was Whitworth's only shot of the second half. She was assisted by Kara Tisthammer. Annick Lamb tied the match in the 87th minute with an unassisted goal. UCSC outshot Whitworth 10-7, including a 2-1 edge in the two overtime periods. But Whitworth keeper Leah Motz made a pair of saves to make sure the match ended in a tie. The Pirates will not return to action until Saturday, September 9th. Whitworth will host NCAA Division II Northwest Nazarene in the Bucs' only home non-conference game of 2006. That match will begin at 10:30 am at the Whitworth Soccer Field. Go to Athletics Home Page > Women's Soccer > Sports Releases > |
