Four Pirates Earn Academic Honors

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Four Whitworth women's soccer players have been recognized by regional college sports information directors for excellence on the field and in the classroom and have been named to the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division women's soccer team, two to the first team and two to the second team.

Jael Hagerott (Sr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) and Greta Thibodeau (Sr., F, Juneau, Alaska - Douglas) are repeat First Team selections, while Penelope Crowe (Jr., F, Bellingham, Wash.) and Kelly Baker (Jr., D, Boise, Idaho) have been selected to the second team.

The Academic All-District VIII teams are selected from NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA players throughout the western United States. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing.

Hagerott has 3.99 grade point average as a kinesiology major and was a First Team Academic All-District choice and Third Team Academic All-American last season. She has tied the school record for career assists this season with 26 and is third all-time in career goals scored with 28. She has two goals and six assists this season.

Thibodeau leads the Pirates in total points this season with six goals and ten assists (22 points). Her assist total leads the Northwest Conference. Thibodeau is a kinesiology major with a 3.80 GPA.

Crowe is second on the team and second in the NWC in assists this season with eight. She has also scored one goal. Crowe is a biology major with a 3.87 GPA.

Baker has been part of a Whitworth defense that has limited opponents to 0.83 goals against and 3.1 shots on goal per match. She also has three goals and two assists herself. Baker is a business management and accounting major with a 3.73 GPA.

This group has helped the 14th-ranked Pirates post a record of 15-2 this season, with two matches remaining.

Hagerott and Thibodeau are all now candidates for CoSIDA's Academic All-American College Division team.
