SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth University midfielder Jael Hagerott has been named to the 2007ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's College Division soccer team for the second consecutive season as a Third Team honoree. Hagerott had previously been a First Team Academic All-District VIII selection, based on nominations and voting by regional college Sports Information Directors.
The Academic All-America teams are selected from the eight all-district teams throughout United States. The all-district winners are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and of sophomore standing. Hagerott is only the third athlete in Whitworth history to repeat as an ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-American, following swimmers Cory Bergman and Serena Fadel (both 2004 and 2005). Hagerott scored two goals and added eight assists this season, totaling 12 points. Four of her goals were match winners, tied for the highest total on the team. Hagerott has a 3.99 grade point average as a health, fitness and P. E. major. She finished her career as Whitworth's all-time leader in career assists with 30, and as one of the all-time goal scorers in Pirate history (also 30). She also led the Pirates to a final record of 18-3 this season and was key to the team earning its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III tournament, where Whitworth advanced to the second round.
