Pirate Women Crowd All-NWC Team

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Eleven members of the Whitworth University women's soccer team have been recognized by the Northwest Conference as part of the 2007 All-NWC team, along with head coach Sean Bushey.

Bushey was voted NWC Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Pirate women to a school-record 17-2 won-loss mark and the first national-tournament appearance in program history.

Four Pirates were named First Team All-NWC, three were selected to the Second Team and four more were given honorable mention consideration.

Jael Hagerott
Greta Thibodeau
Kelly Baker
Kaylyn Plumb

Jael Hagerott (Sr., MF, Spokane, Wash.), Greta Thibodeau (Sr., F, Juneau, Alaska), Kelly Baker (Jr., D, Boise, Idaho) and Kaylyn Plumb (Fr., D, Newman Lake, Wash.) were all named to the First Team.

Hagerott is a four-time First Team All-NWC honoree. She has two goals and seven assists this season, giving her 29 for her career - which is a Whitworth record.

Thibodeau is a repeat First Team selection. She leads the NWC in assists this season with 12, to go along with six goals. Her 24 total points leads the team.

Baker has been part of a Whitworth defense that has limited opponents to 0.79 goals against and 3.1 shots on goal per match. She also has three goals and two assists herself.

Plumb has been both part of the strong defense and an offensive force. She has scored eight goals this season, four of which have been match-winners.

The group of Pirates selected to the Second Team includes Penelope Crowe (Jr., F, Bellingham, Wash.), Lindsey Oakes (So., MF, Boise, Idaho) and Kimberly Mitchell (Jr., D, Los Altos, Calif.).

Crowe, who was an honorable mention honoree last season, is currently second in the NWC in assists this season to go along with two goals.

Oakes leads Whitworth in goals in 2007 with nine. Four of those goals have been match-winners.

Mitchell has played center-back on the Pirates' imposing defensive line.

Kara Tisthammer

Sarah Brogden-Thome (Sr., D, Spokane, Wash.), Kelly Lunde (Fr., D, Vancouver, Wash.), Whitney Ramsey (Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) and Kara Tisthammer (Jr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) were honorable mention members of the group.

Brogden-Thome and Lunde were both parts of Whitworth's strong back line and each had an assist this season. Ramsey has six goals and four assists this season. Tisthammer scored four times to go along with an assist.

The Pirates will play UC Santa Cruz in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday afternoon (1:30 p.m.) at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.
