PORTLAND, Ore. - (From L&C SID Office) Whitworth University tied a school record for single season victories when the visiting Pirates defeated Lewis & Clark College 3-1 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Thursday afternoon.

Whitney Ramsey had a goal and an assist for Whitworth (16-2 overall, 13-2 NWC). The Bucs tied the 1996 Whitworth team that finished 16-5-2. The host Pioneers fell to 2-13-2, 2-12-1.

Forward Sarah-Ann Kieffer put the Pioneers up 1-0 just under sixteen minutes into the game when the Pirates goalkeeper Krista Dietz came out of the goal on defense and Kieffer booted the ball past her into the net. The Pirates countered on a strike by Lindsay Oakes at the 29:12 mark in the first period. Oakes kicked a high shot over Pioneer goalie Nora Germano into the net to tie the game 1-1, a score that held through the end of the first half.

In the second period, the Pioneer defense kept the Pirates off the scoreboard until the 83:01 mark when Ramsey connected with the net, getting a ball past Pioneer backup goalie Karyne Sander. Whitworth added an insurance goal by Penelope Crowe on a feed from Ramsey with just under three minutes left in the game.

Whitworth will travel to Walla Walla, Washington for a Saturday night match (4:00 p.m.) at Whitman College to conclude the regular season. With a win the Pirates will break the school single-season win record.
