SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University defender Kaylyn Plumb (Fr., Newman Lake, Wash.) scored twice to lead the Pirates past visiting Linfield College 5-1 in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth Soccer Field.
The Pirates (#18 in the d3kicks.com poll and #22 in the NSCAA rating) improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWC. The Wildcats fell to 1-3-1, 0-2. Kara Tisthammer (Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) got the Pirates on the board first when she took a pass to the middle of the box from Lindsey Oakes (So., MF, Boise, Idaho) and shot into the upper-left corner of the net in the fourth minute. Plumb gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute when she took a pass from Greta Thibodeau (Sr., F, Juneau, Alaska) and lofted a long, looping shot that bounced off of the left post and into the net. Thibodeau set up the third Whitworth goal in the 48th minute when she sent a crossing pass to the opposite side of the box. Mahyo Seyedali (Jr., MF, Kirkland, Wash.) kicked right back to the middle of the box where Stephanie Wipf (So., F, Gilbert, Ariz.) headed the ball past Wildcat keeper Kelsey Hasselblad. Linfield got within 3-1 when Emma Triplett drove the ball hard into the box and fired a shot that Whitworth keeper Krista Dietz (So., GK, Enumclaw, Wash.) dove to her left to stop. But Kim Skelly was there to put the rebound back into the net in the 60th minute. The Pirates put the match away with two more goals. The first came when Plumb headed a long free kick by Oakes into the upper right corner in the 71st minute. In the 82nd minute Jenny Krzymowski (Fr., Gallup, N.M.) headed a crossing pass from Ellen Seagraves (Fr., MF, Missoula, Mont.) over Hasselblad and into the net. The Pirates had a 20-9 shots advantage and had an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. Hasselblad made three saves for the Wildcats, while Dietz made nine stops for the Pirates. Next weekend Whitworth hits the road to take on Willamette University (Saturday) and George Fox University (Sunday), while Linfield returns home to play Lewis & Clark College (Saturday) and University of Puget Sound (Sunday).
