McMinnville, Ore. - Kaylyn Plumb scored with just under 15 minutes to play to lift visiting Whitworth University to a 2-1 win at Linfield College in a Northwest Conference women's soccer match on Saturday afternoon.
The win improved the Pirates to 11-1 overall and 8-1 in the NWC, while the Wildcats fell to 5-6-1, 4-5. Jael Hagerott scored her first goal of the season in the 8th minute to give the Pirates an early 1-0 lead. Kelly Baker had the assist on the play. Linfield tied the match in the 16th minute when Sara Blake scored off of an assist by Emma Triplett. The shot was one of only two the Wildcats were able to put on goal all match. Plumb's goal, her sixth of the season to tie for team lead, came in the 76th minute off of an assist by Penelope Crowe. Whitworth outshot Linfield 18-5, including an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Linfield keeper Kelsey Hasselblad made nine saves for the Wildcats, while Krista Dietz made one save for the Bucs. Whitworth will continue its Oregon road trip on Sunday with a match at Pacific, scheduled to start at Noon. The Pirates defeated the Boxers 2-0 earlier this season in Spokane.
