TACOMA, Wash. - (From PLU SID Office) Whitney Ramsey (Jr., F, Spokane, Wash.) scored the tying goal in the 89th minute and and Kaylyn Plumb (Fr., D, Newman Lake, Wash.) scored the winning goal in the second minute of overtime to lead the Whitworth Pirates past Pacific Lutheran, 2-1, in a Northwest Conference women’s soccer match played Saturday at PLU.
The host Lutes led 1-0 on a first half penalty kick, Melissa Buitrago converting for her third goal of the season. Pacific Lutheran weathered Whitworth’s 10-shot attack in the second half until the final minute when Ramsey scored the tying goal. She ran onto Kelly Lunde’s (Fr., D, Vancouver, Wash.) pass over the top of the PLU defense and scored her third goal of the season. Plumb ended the game with an unassisted goal, her fifth of the year. The Pirates out-shot the Lutes, 16-6, forcing PLU goalkeeper Amanda Tschauner to make eight saves. The visitors also enjoyed a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks. Whitworth, ranked No. 8 in the country, won for the eighth time this season without a loss, including five in conference action. The Pirates face host Puget Sound, also unbeaten, in a battle of Northwest Conference powerhouses at noon on Sunday. The Lutes, meanwhile, are now 2-6-1 for the season and 1-4-0 in the NWC, and they host the Whitman Missionaries at noon on Sunday. Go to Athletics Home Page > Women's Soccer > Sports Releases > |
