FOREST GROVE, Ore. - (From Pacific SID Office) Jenny Krzymowski took the first opportunity of the second half to score the winning goal as Whitworth cruised to a 1-0 victory over Pacific in Northwest Conference women's soccer action Sunday at Lincoln Park Stadium.
Pacific (4-9-1, 2-8-0 NWC) lost their fourth conference match in a row, while Whitworth (12-1-0, 9-1-0 NWC) swept the season series against the Boxers and earned a 2-0 record on this Oregon road trip. After a well-played defensive first half Whitworth didn't waste any time getting offensive in the second half. Krzymowski scored her third goal of the season on a quick pass inside the box from Jael Hagerott in the 46th minute. Meghan Fredette came closest to bringing the Boxers even with the Pirates in the 52nd minute. Fredette sprinted ahead of the defense on the right side and let a shot rip just inside the box, but goalie Krista Dietz dove to her right and denied the scoring opportunity. The Boxers managed to keep the Pirates' potent offense in check most of the game, although the opportunities did abound. Whitworth finished the game with an advantage in shots 16-3 and shots on goal 10-3. Pacific goalie Sydney Vincent put up a strong performance with 9 saves in the match, while Dietz only needed 3 saves in the victory. Whitworth now returns to Spokane for four straight NWC home matches, beginning next weekend against George Fox (Saturday) and Willamette (Sunday).
