Whitworth 6, Lewis & Clark 1 (Complete box and play by play)
SPOKANE, Wash. - Lindsay Davis drove in three runs and Jo Sonnett pitched another complete game to lift Whitworth to a 6-1 win over visiting Lewis & Clark at Marks Field on Saturday afternoon, giving the Pirates a four game sweep of the Northwest Conference softball series against the Pioneers. Whitworth holds onto first place in the NWC standings at 17-3, with a 22-8 mark overall. L&C fell to 4-27, 4-20. Davis got the Pirates on the board in the first inning, singling home Heather Case with Whitworth's first run of the game. Jodi Schock added a two-run single later in the inning to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead. L&C pulled within 3-1 in the second when Stephanie Lemon doubled home pinch runner Stacy Davis, scoring the first Pioneer run of the four game set. Whitworth sealed the game in the fourth when Davis drilled a two-run home run to left center field and Sarah Froman just missed a home run off of the top of the center field wall but still drove home Kristin Hanson with the final run of the game. Sonnett allowed one run on five hits to improve to 16-4 this season. She stuck out eight with no walks. Natalie Matson threw only one inning, but took the loss for L&C to fall to 3-10. Whitworth will travel to Willamette next weekend for a four game series in Salem, Oregon. L&C will travel to Tacoma, Washington next weekend for a doubleheader at PLU next Saturday and another at UPS on Sunday. |
