Eckhoff earned a win in game two

TACOMA, Wash. - (From Dave Girrard, PLU SID) Pacific Lutheran exchanged shutout victories in a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader today on the PLU field. PLU won the first game 4-0, while the Pirates won the nightcap 3-0 in eight innings.

The Lutes are 8-2 overall, 5-1 in conference games. Whitworth stands at
4-4 overall, 4-2 in the conference.

In the first game the Lutes plated four runs -- all unearned -- in the fifth inning on four hits and three Whitworth errors. Ashley Lopez and Ericka Hazen had RBI singles for PLU.

Candace Howard allowed one hit, struck out nine and walked two to record the complete game victory. She now has a 3-0 record. Whitworth's Jo Sonnett took the loss, falling to 3-3.

In the second game, neither team scored until the Pirates rallied for three in the top of the eighth. With two runners on and one out, Sarah Froman singled to score Lindsay Davis from second base. Heather Case then scored on an error by the shortstop and Jennifer Eckhoff followed with another RBI single.

Eckhoff picked up her first win of the season, throwing a complete-game shutout. She allowed six hits and a walk while striking out seven.

The two teams will play another NWC doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
