SPOKANE, Wash. - Lacey Kerr leads a list of four Whitworth University softball players who have earned post-season honors in 2009. Kerr (Jr., OF, Spokane, Wash.) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference and Second Team All-West Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Caty Lieseke (So., IF, Port Orchard, Wash.) is a Second Team All-NWC choice. Ashley Carey (Jr., IF, Enumclaw, Wash.) and Mandee Edwards (Sr., OF, Kettle Falls, Wash.) are both honorable mention All-NWC honorees.
Kerr batted .457 this season and set a new Whitworth single-season record with an .804 slugging average. She led the team in home runs (six), doubles (10) and runs scored (29) and was second on the team in runs batted in (26). She was an honorable mention All-NWC selection last season. Lieseke batted .343 with 18 runs batted in and five doubles. She also was second on the team with seven stolen bases in ten attempts. Defensively she made only two errors in 162 defensive chances (.988 fielding percentage), mostly at first base. Carey was second on the team in batting average (.356) and runs scored (19), while leading the Pirates in runs batted in this season (27). Edwards batted .318 and led the Pirates in total game appearances (35 of the team's 36 games). She also led the team and finished second in the NWC this season with 18 stolen bases (in 21 attempts).
