TACOMA, Wash. -- (From PLU SID Office) Whitworth won nine of the 11 men's events and seven of the 11 women's events to swim past Pacific Lutheran in a Northwest Conference dual meet today at the PLU Pool. The Pirates outscored the Lutes in the 104-66 men's meet and recorded a 113-79 victory in the women's meet. Whitworth head coach Steve Schadt opted to have his team swim the last two men's and women's events -- the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard medley relay -- as exhibition races, which meant that PLU automatically won those events. Loren Killgore (Sr., Corbett, Ore. - Barlow HS) led the Pirate men to victory with three individual wins. He won the 200 Freestyle in 1:48.55, the 100 Butterfly in 54.64 and the 500 Freestyle in 4:58.20. Katelyn Erickson (So., Austin, Texas - Anderson HS) and Brittany Gresset (Fr., Seattle, Wash. - Mt. Rainier HS) each won a pair of individual events to lead the Whitworth women. Erickson won the 200 I.M. in a season-best time of 2:18.35 and won the 100 Backstroke in 1:01.93. She was named the Northwest Conference swimmer of the meet for her efforts. Gresset won the 200 Freestyle (2:01.92) and 100 Freestyle (55.16). The Pirate men are now 3-0 in NWC dual meets and 3-1 overall, while the Pirate women's squad is 2-1 in conference dual meets and 2-2 overall. Whitworth will host its first dual meet of the season on Saturday, January 14th, when the Pirates take on Willamette University. The first event is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm.
