SPOKANE, Wash. -- Whitworth College won nine of the 15 relays to win the 2005 NWC Relay Invitational on Friday night at the Whitworth Aquatic Center. The Pirate men won all six men's relays to win the men's competition going away. The closest men's race was the 300 backstroke relay in which Whitworth nipped the University of Puget Sound 2:48.60 - 2:48.77 as Pirate anchor Luke Stocker made up nearly three seconds in the final 100 yards. UPS won four of the six women's relays to earn the title in the women's competition. The Loggers edged Whitworth in the 300 I.M. relay 3:12.88 - 3:13.52. Lewis & Clark was the only other school to win a relay. The Pioneers won the mixed 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.80, edging UPS (1:37.84), by four hundredths of a second. Puget Sound won the opening mixed 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.79. Whitworth won the closing mixed 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.91. Click here for complete results.
