Whitworth Competes Well in Florida
Returns to Dual Meet Competition

KEY LARGO, Fla. -- The Whitworth swimming teams matched up well against schools from all over the country last Saturday as both the Pirate men and women came away with 2nd place finishes at the Orange Bowl Classic.

Natalie Turner (Fr., South Lake Tahoe, Wash.) led the Whitworth women by finishing first in both the 400 meter (4:36.68) and 100 meter (1:01.10) freestyle races. She was also part of the victorious 200 medley relay (2:08.40). Yasi Kheshgi (Fr., Evanston, Ill.) won the 100 meter butterfly (1:09.13) and Britanny Gresset (So., Seattle, Wash.) won the 50 meter freestyle (28.07). Only Boston College (NCAA DI) scored more points than the Pirates.

David Dolphay (Jr., Great Falls, Mont. - Great Falls) won the 400 meter freestyle (4:17.27) for the Pirate men and added a second place finish (2:25.37) in the 200 meter I.M. He was also part of the 200 free relay (1:45.14) that finished third. Bryan Clarke (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) took home a victory in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:09.47) and Kris Aslesen (Fr., Davidson, N.C.) was second in the 100 meter free (56.60). Just like in the women's meet, only Boston College defeated the Pirate men.

This Week: Whitworth will travel to Pacific University and Linfield College, returning to Northwest Conference dual meets on the schedule. The Pirate teams are both 3-1 overall and 3-0 in dual meet records this season.

The Pacific meet will begin at 6:30 pm at the Forest Grove Aquatic Center. The Boxers are trying to build their program. While the men have only two swimmers, Nathan Smith is one of the best in the NWC.

The Linfield meet will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday. Whitworth's men have won 45 consecutive NWC dual meets dating to the 1998-99 season.The Wildcat men (3-2 overall, 3-0 NWC) will give the Pirates quite a challenge on Saturday.
