Lewis & Clark, looking to repeat its victory over the Pirates from last season, won the opening 400 Medley Relay in 4:18.46. But Whitworth's Yasmeen Kheshgi won the 1,000 Freestyle (11:19.87), leading a 1-2-4 finish for the Pirates in the event, and Whitworth never trailed in the dual meet again. Turner, a freshman, won both the 200 (1:55.45) and 500 (5:19.27) Freestyles, while Gresset took both the 50 Free (24.52) and 100 Free (54.59). Samantha Kephart won the 200 Butterfly in 2:13.95, while Katelyn Erickson won the 200 Backstroke (2:14.97). Lewis & Clark's Lindsay Nixon won both the 200 I.M. (2:15.45) and 200 Breaststroke (2:37.73). The Pirate's closed the meet with a win in the 400 Freestyle Relay in 3:41.05. After Whitworth's men won the opening 400 Medley Relay in 3:59.06, seven different Pirates won the next seven individual events. David Dolphay won the 1,000 Free (10:17.86), while Kris Asleson won the 200 Free (1:51.60). Justin Brandler took the 50 Free (22.96), while Nathan Newberg won the 100 Free (50.36). L&C did not have a competitor in the 500, so the Pirates essentially swept all the Freestyle events. After the Pirates had clinched the team with with three events to go, head Coach Steve Schadt changed all of the remaining Whitworth men swimmers to exhibition (non-scoring) competitors. Therefore the Pioneers' Pat Murray officially won the 200 Breaststroke (2:21.65) and L&C officially won the 400 Free Relay (3:50.36). Next Friday Whitworth will host Seattle University while Lewis & Clark travels to Linfield. |
