Whitworth Tops Willamette Men and Women

SPOKANE , Wash. -- Whitworth's men and women raced to a dual meet sweep of visiting Willamette in a Northwest Conference swimming dual meet on Friday night at the Whitworth Aquatic Center. The Pirate men won 116-64, while the women won by the score of 109-69.

Whitworth men won seven of the first eight events to open up a 116-28 lead. David Dolphay was the only double winner, as he took victories in both the 1,000 Free (10:12.24) and 100 Backstroke (57.87). Willamette won the final three events as Whitworth's entries were converted to exhibition swims.

The Pirate women won the first eight events in a row to open a lead of 109-32. Samantha Kephart won both the 50 Freestyle (25.48) and 100 Butterfly (59.11). The Bearcats won the final three events after Whitworth's entries were converted to exhibition swims.

Whitworth will now take two weeks off of competition. The team will race again the first weekend in December. Part of the team will compete at the Husky Invitational in Federal Way, Washington, while the rest of the squad races at the Northwest Invitational at PLU in Tacoma.
