FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Whitworth University's swimming teams finished well at the University of Washington Husky Invitational as the Pirates posted their highest individual finishes of the meet.

Natalie Turner took 12th place in the 1,650 yard Freestyle in a time of 17:24.91, just off of her school-record time of 17:21.07 set at last season's NCAA Division III championships. It was the highest individual finish of the meet for the Whitworth women. Turner was also 28th in the 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 53.02, the second-fastest time in school history behind the 52.58 by Samantha Kephart in November of 2005. Kephart had a strong final day herself, finishing 14th in the 200 yard Butterfly with a time of 2:06.73. Marjorie Turner finished 23rd in the 200 yard Backstroke with a time of 2:12.07, which was just off of the lifetime best 2:11.37 she posted in the morning preliminaries and is the best time in the NWC this season. The Pirate women finished 13th in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:34.61, which almost broke the school record of 3:34.25 set at last season's Northwest Conference championships. David Dolphay had the highest individual finish of the meet for the Pirate men when he took 15th in the 1,650 Free with a time of 16:37.17. Michael Woodward posted the NWC's best time of the season in the 200 yard Breaststroke (2:12.62), while finishing 27th. The Pirate men were 13th in the 400 Frestyle Relay with an NWC-season best time of 3:14.27. The Whitworth women finished tie for 9th place out of 12 teams with Boise State. The scores were: USC 1369, Washington 1225, Notre Dame 897, UC Santa Barbara 823.5, Oregon State 683, Wyoming 542, Hawaii 397.5, Cal Davis 342, Whitworth 225, Boise State 225, Seattle 158, UPS 89. The Pirate men tool 9th place out of 10 teams. The scores were: Michigan 1621.5, Cal 1142.5, USC 893, Washington 798, UC Santa Barbara 643, Hawaii 484, Wyoming 411, Seattle 222, Whitworth 190, UPS 159. |
