Whitworth Nets Pool Record and NCAA Cuts in Sweep of Linfield

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Natalie Turner set a Whitworth Aquatic Center record and posted an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time to lead the Pirate women to a 160-39 win over visiting Linfield College in a Northwest Conference swimming dual meet on Saturday afternoon. The Pirate men completed the sweep of the Wildcats with a 136-69 win.

Natalie Turner

Turner won the 1,650 yard freestyle in a time of 17:37.24, breaking the old Whitworth Aquatic Center record of 17:49.13 set by Barbara Graham of Simon Fraser at the 1986 NAIA Championship meet. Turner also won the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.54.

Samantha Kephart posted her first NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark while winning the 100 yard butterfly in 57.88. She also won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:21.92. Brittany Gresset also won twice for the Pirate women, who swept to victory in all 11 of the dual meet events. Gresset won the 50 yard freestyle in 24.68 and the 100 yard freestyle in 55.27.

Whitworth's David Dolphay and Michael Woodward both won twice in the men's meet. Dolphay won the 1,650 free in 16:47.37 and the 500 free in 4:45.28. Woodward won the 200 yard free (1:45.39) and the 100 yard free (48.31).

The meet's other double winner on Saturday was Dominic Rieniets of Linfield who won both the 50 yard freestyle (22.25) and 100 yard butterfly (52.79).

Whitworth will be back in action again next Saturday when the Pirates compete in a non-league dual meet at Seattle University.
