SPOKANE, Wash. - Bouncing back from a heart-breaking loss to league-leading Willamette the night before, Whitworth rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Lewis & Clark in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Scotford Tennis Center.

Using the three outdoor courts for the first time in more than two seasons along with the three indoor courts, the Pirates were able to improve to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the NWC in a match that took a little more than two hours. The Pioneers fell to 0-10, 0-8.

Whitworth swept through the doubles quickly. Michael Shelton and Colin Zalewski won 8-0 over Peter Ray and Quinn Roth-Carter at #1 doubles. Cameron Williams and Joe Wales were quickly done with Junya Furakawa and Wataru Nakamura 8-1. Henry Williams and Colin Barrett defeated Andrew Davy and Kerry White by the same 8-1 score.

All six singles matches went in straight sets. Shelton defeated Ray 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles, while Zalewski topped Furakawa 6-4, 6-1 at #2 singles in the closest of the six contests.

Kellen Oetgen defeated Davy 6-1, 6-1 at #6 singles in his only action of the match.
