Pirates Sweep Season Match Ups With PLU and UPS
TACOMA, Wash. - Whitworth rolled to a pair of 9-0 Northwest Conference women's tennis victories on Saturday, winning at Puget Sound in the morning and at Pacific Lutheran in the evening. The morning's match may have been the most dominating of the season for the NWC-leading Pirates. Whitworth only gave up a single game in the entire match, winning all three doubles contests by 8-0 scores and five of the six singles matches by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Sophomore Mya Towne won 6-0, 6-1 at #3 singles. The Pirates were nearly as dominant in a 9-0 win at Pacific Lutheran later on Saturday, losing only four games in doubles and just nine in the six singles matches. Rachel Burns and Alli Marshall beat Ashley Coats and Cora Wigen, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles. Towne and Erica Bosman won 8-0 at No. 2, while Katie Staudinger and Stephanie Reardon won 8-3 at No. 3. Burns took a 6-0, 6-2 win from Coats at #1 singles. Marshall, Bosman, Staudinger, Megan Wingfield and Siri Carlson. Marshall, Bosman, Wingfield and Carlson each lost just one game in their singles matches. Whitworth is off until March 22nd when the Bucs travel to California for three matches over spring break. |
