SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth College dropped its first two men's tennis matches of the season over the weekend, losing 5-2 to NCAA Division II Montana State-Billings and 7-0 at NAIA Lewis-Clark State. The Pirates will begin Northwest Conference play this week when they travel to George Fox University and Lewis & Clark College. Whitworth was able to win only one match against Billings in the season opener last Friday. Isaac Lanctot (So., Spokane, Wash.) won the number five singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Josh Berns of MSU. The Pirates were awarded another point when Billings did not have a player to compete against Scott Bourne (Fr., Shoreline, Wash.) in the sixth singles match. The Bucs struggled to gain a point against NAIA power LCSC. The Warriors swept the doubles matches before winning all six singles contests. Ed Anegon (So., Lewiston, Idaho) went to 6-4 in the first set of his match at number one singles before losing the second set 6-0. |
