Whitworth College lost one and won one over the weekend in men's tennis, evening the Pirates' record at 3-3 overall. Whitworth is 3-1 in Northwest Conference matches. The Pirates lost to Linfield 6-1 on Friday afternoon. Michael Carlson earned Whitworth's only team point with a 6-2, 6-2 win at #3 singles. Ed Anegon and Ben Works won their match at first doubles 8-4. Carlson and Scott Bourne fought hard before losing second doubles 8-6. Works and Bourne also had close singles matches before eventually losing. The Pirates defeated Pacific 7-0 on Saturday. Colin Storm and Trevor Strang won their third doubles match 8-1 before going on to win easily at #5 and #6 singles, respectively. Carlson and Isaac Lanctot won 8-0 at second doubles. Carlson and Jeremiah Collins each won 6-0, 6-0 at #3 and #4 singles, respectively. Whitworth will return to the road this weekend, taking on Puget Sound on Friday and defending champion Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. Both matches are in Tacoma. |
