SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitworth men's tennis team will conclude the 2007 regular season this week with a pair of matches against Pacific University. The Pirates will host the Boxers on Saturday at 3:30 pm and on Sunday again at 8:00 am. Whitworth (4-15 overall, 4-10 NWC) is coming off of an 0-3 weekend in Tacoma.
The Pirates played a doubleheader at Pacific Lutheran last Saturday, losing 9-0 in the first match and 6-3 in the second contest to the second-place Lutes. Michael Carlson teamed with Kellen Oetgen to win 9-8 (10-2) at #2 doubles, then Carlson went on to win 6-1, 6-1 at #3 singles. Scott Bourne added a three set victory at #4 singles, 7-6, 3-6, 7-5. On Sunday Whitworth was beaten 8-1 by Puget Sound. Carlson was the only winner, taking his #3 singles match 6-1, 6-2. Scott Donnell and Colin Storm nearly pulled out their #3 doubles match before losing 9-8. After this weekend's matches against last-place Pacific, the Pirates will head to Yakima, Washington as the #6 seed for the NWC tournament (April 20-21). |
