SPOKANE, Wash. - The final piece of the Scotford Tennis Center will be officially opened on Saturday when the Whitworth men's tennis team hosts George Fox University at 11:00 am. The Whitworth Tennis Bubble will host its first NCAA tennis match when the Pirate men take on the Bruins. The bubble, which covers three of the six courts at the Scotford Tennis Center, will be inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Whitworth President Dr. Bill Robinson and Director of Athletics Dr. Scott McQuilkin. The bubble gives Whitworth its first year-round tennis facility and is the end result of an anonymous donation. “Because of tremendous donors, the facilities for our tennis programs have been significantly upgraded over the past two years," said McQuilkin. "The new courts are immaculate. The large, grass hillside that overlooks the courts offers a wonderful view of the matches. And with the addition of the tennis bubble, our student-athletes will be able to practice year-round and at reasonable hours rather than having to reserve courts at inconvenient times at local clubs. We believe having this bubble will make our tennis programs even more attractive to recruits because they can practice year-round, and do so by just walking across campus to the indoor courts.” |
