SPOKANE, Wash. - Pulling out three of the four singles matches that went three sets, Whitworth's men's tennis team rallied to defeat visiting Puget Sound 5-4 in Northwest Conference net action on Friday afternoon.

The Pirates rallied from a 2-1 deficit after the doubles matches behind the nervy efforts of Ed Anegon (Jr., Lewiston, Idaho) and Scott Donnell (Jr., Oak Harbor, Wash.) at the top of the singles ladder. Anegon pulled out a 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 win at #1 singles, while Donnell won 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 at #2 singles. The pair also won 8-6 at #1 doubles.

Kellen Oetgen (Fr., Bellingham, Wash.) evened his singled record at 3-3 with a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at #4 singles, while Curran Scott (Jr., Spokane, Wash.) picked up his first singles victory of the spring with a 6-2, 6-3 win at #6 singles.

By winning its second match in as many tries the Pirates improved to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the NWC.

Whitworth's scheduled matches against Whitman and Pacific Lutheran were postponed by the cold, wet weather. The Pirates will now host Whitman on the afternoon of March 31st, after hosting George Fox that morning. Whitworth will now also play PLU twice on April 6 in Tacoma.

The Pirates are now off for a week before returning to action on March 16-17 at Linfield and Willamette.
