Women's Tennis Splits on First Road Trip

The Whitworth College women's tennis team returned from Oregon with a win and loss to add to the 2006 record, making the Pirates 3-1 so far this season.

Whitworth lost 8-1 at defending Northwest Conference champion Linfield on Friday afternoon. Sandy Fujitani earned the Pirates' only point, winning a pro set scoring match 8-5 at #6 singles. Katie Troxell fought hard at #3 singles before losing 4-6, 6-2, (10-8).

Whitworth bounced back to defeat Pacific 9-0 on Saturday. Rachael McCoola and Betsy Johnson teamed to win 8-4 at #1 doubles. McCoola went on to win 6-4, 6-1 at third singles, while Johnson won 6-3, 6-1 at fifth singles. Jamie Kneese won 6-1, 6-0 at first singles.

Whitworth will host Puget Sound on Friday and Pacific Lutheran on Saturday of this upcoming weekend in a pair of key Northwest Conference matches.
