SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University rolled to its fifth women's tennis win of the season with a 9-0 victory over visiting University of Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference match on Friday night at the Scotford Tennis Center. Click here for match box score. Katie Staudinger remained unbeaten in both singles and doubles matches this season. She teamed with Justine Hays to win 8-4 at #3 doubles, improving the pair's season record to 7-0. Staudinger then defeated Ashley Spencer 6-1, 6-1 at #4 singles to improve her singles record to 6-0 this season. Hays won 6-0, 6-0 over Penny Horowitz at #6 singles. Lexy Harrington and Linh Aven cruised to an 8-2 win over Katie Schultz and Sam Taylor at #1 doubles. Harrington went on to blank Taylor 6-0, 6-0 at #2 singles, while Aven defeated Alissa Wolf 6-2, 6-3 at #3 singles. Rachel Burns and Taryn Smith d Spencer and Wolf 8-3 at #2 doubles. Burns topped Schultz 6-2, 6-4 at #1 singles, while Smith beat Rochelle Herbert 6-2, 6-4 at #5 singles. Whitworth will try to win its third straight match when the Pirates host Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. |
