On Wednesday night the difference was the doubles. Chapman won all three doubles matches and the Panthers took the match 6-3. But all three doubles matches were close, especially at #1 where Harrington and Aven lost 9-7 to the 4th-ranked doubles team in the west region.

Aven won 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 at #3 singles, while Staudinger cruised 6-1, 6-4 at #4 singles. Hays picked up Whitworth's third point with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #5 singles. Harrington lost a tough 7-6, 7-5 decision at #2 singles.

Had the #1 doubles match and Harrington's singles match gone the other way, Whitworth would've upset Chapman.
