Pirate Men Win Races at Dusty Lane

Ben Spaun posted strong hurdles times

SPOKANE, Wash. - Three different Whitworth men won races and posted strong Northwest Conference qualifying marks at the Dusty Lane Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Spokane Community College.

Ben Spaun won the 400 hurdles in a season-best time of 56.62 and finished third in the 100 high hurdles with a season best time of 15.70. Stefan Robinson qualified for the NWC Championships after winning the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 10:27.81. Brandon Howell posted his best time of the season in the 800 run as he aims to return to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. His mark was 1:54.77.

The Pirates got a couple of runner-up performances by the women. Corinne Hodges was second in the long jump (15'-6") and third in the triple jump (32'-4"). Andrea Carnahan finished second in the 1,500 run (5:05.84) and Katherine Lane took third in the pole vault (9'-10").

Whitworth will now travel to California for training over spring break. The trip will be culminate in the Point Loma University Invitational on Saturday the 25th. The meet will include the hosts, in addition to Princeton, Middlebury and several other strong programs.
