April 30, 2006

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Whitworth track and field team established several season bests at the Duane Hartman Invitational on Saturday afternoon during a beautiful sunny day at Spokane Falls Community College.

Florence improved her NCAA B cut in the javelin

For the women, Angela Florence improved her NCAA Division III qualifying mark in the javelin with a throw of 138'-1". That throw should be long enough to get her into the meet. Jenna Hays posted a season best while winning the 400 hurdles in 1:08.65. Dacia Murillo had a season best mark in the hammer throw of 129'-9".

Brandon Howell won again in the 800, easing to victory in 1:53.63 which is just off of his season best time. Ben Spaun finished second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.23, knocking more than a half second off of his previous best this season. Jake DePell added another quarter inch to his season best in the pole vault with a mark of 14'-5.5". He also had three near misses at 15 feet.

Next weekend the Pirates still competing this season will face their toughest competition to date at the University of Washington Ken Shannon Invitational at Husky Stadium in Seattle.
