SPOKANE, Wash. - In her first appearance at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, Whitworth College's Kristi Dickey earned an All-American finish in the 10,000 meter run by finishing seventh. In addition, Sarah Marken is off to her best first day ever in the heptathlon.
Dickey, a senior from Kennewick (Southridge), ran the 10,000 in 36:26.94. It is her second best time ever, behind only her school recorded mark of 36:17.27. Caroline Cretti of Williams College won the race in 35:10.42. Marken, a senior from Casper, Wyoming (Kelly Walsh), is currently tenth in the heptathlon with a score of 2,654. However, she is 119 points ahead of her previous personal best first day score. She established personal bests in all four events: the 100 hurdles (15.24), high jump (4'-9"), shot put (35'-2") and the 200 dash (27.13). The heptathlon concludes on Friday and the top eight finishers earn All-America honors. Benedictine University is hosting the championship meet in Lisle, Illinois. In addition to Marken completing the heptathlon on Friday, Derrick Dewindt will throw the hammer. Angela Florence will throw the javelin on Saturday.
