SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Whitworth stood up to the stiff competition at the Point Loma Invitational over the weekend and came away with several season-best marks as well as many NWC qualifiers.

Kristi Dickey was an NWC qualifier in her first 5,000 race, finishing second in a time of 17:53.37. Emily Hurd had a strong 1,500, posting an NWC qualifying and season best time of 5:01.31. The same was true for Jenna Hays in the 400 hurdles (1:08.13).

Hays, along with teammate Katy Lane, went on to pole vault 10'-0", season best heights for both. Sarah Marken's triple jump of 33'-0.25" was a season best and conference qualifier. Dacia Murillo had a pair of good throws. Her discus (120'-0") and hammer (126'-10") were both season bests and improved her standing in the NWC.

The Pirate men were not outdone. Jeff Grassley was the only individual event winner of the meet for Whitworth. He took the 3,000 steeplechase in a hand time of 9:54.7. Cody Moore went 11.23 in the 100 dash, a season best, and tied his season best in the 200 (22.88). Josh Siemieniec won his heat of the 400 in a season best and NWC qualifying time of 50.61, while Ben Spaun improved his 400 hurdle time to 56.11.
