Whitworth Men, NNU Women Win Buc Scoring Invite

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Northwest Nazarene women and Whitworth College men won the team titles on Saturday afternoon at the Whitworth Buc Scoring Invitational at Boppell Track and Whitworth Pine Bowl.

The Pirate men won with 206 points, followed by Central Washington with 170.5. Puget Sound was third with 135.5, followed by NNU (94), CC of Spokane (53), Lewis & Clark (37), and Gonzaga (27). The NNU women scored 222 points to outdistance Central Washington’s 142.5. Whitworth was third with 113.5, followed by Puget Sound (100.5), CC of Spokane (98.5), Lewis & Clark (56) and Gonzaga (16).

Brandon Howell won the 800 meter run (1:54.23) and anchored the winning 4x400 relay (3:24.61) to lead the Whitworth men. The Pirates' Ben Spaun won both hurdle races, taking the 110 HH in 15.75 and the 400 in 56.46. Cody Stelzer won the high jump with a mark of 6'-6.75".

Central's men got solid wins from Scott McCoy in the pole vault (14'-5.25") and Adrian Elmo in the triple jump (44'-3.5"). CWU's Michael Ingman won the javelin with a throw of 194'-11", while the Wildcats' Tyler Fischer (142'-6") edged Whitworth's Jeff Kintner (141'-8") in the discus.

Pete Van Sant of UPS was a three-time winner. He took the 100 dash in 11.15, the long jump in 21'-3.25" and anchored the winning 4x100 relay to a winning time of 43.50. He was also second in the 200 dash (22.30) to Matt Rogstad of CWU (22.22).

Ashley Puga led the NNU women by winning both the 800 (2:20.39) and 1,500 (4:46.24). The Crusaders also won the 4x400 relay (4:08.82) to conclude the meet. Ashley Wornell won the 400 hurdles (1:07.92) and was second in the high jump (5'-3") to teammate Emily Peterson (5'-5"). The Crusaders went 1-2-3 in the hammer throw with Amy Carroll winning with a mark of 142'-8", followed by Courtney Little (128'-10") and Jocelyn Judd (126'-7").

Rachael Kaercher of CWU won the 400 in 59.51, while the Wildcats' Anjuly Spear won the long jump (16'-4.5") and Shaina Afoa won the shot put (39'-10").

Roxanne Gilbride of L&C won the javelin with a throw of 125'-6".

CCS swept the women's sprints. Natalie Abersfeller won the 100 dash (12.92), Stephanie Hill won the 200 (26.51), Brandi Edwards won the 100 hurdles (15.30) and the Sasquatch won the 4x100 relay (50.06).
