SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth College added another national qualifying mark and improved on a couple of others on Saturday at the Duane Hartman Invitational at Spokane Falls Community College.
Click here for complete results. Emmanuel Bofa, a freshman, won the 800 meters in a season best mark of 1:52.23, earning a provisional NCAA Division III national qualifying time. His time is a lifetime personal record. Two other Pirate men improved on already existing NCAA Division III qualifying marks. Cody Stelzer won the high jump by clearing 6'-8.75", tying his PR and improving his outdoor best mark by three quarters of an inch. Kory Kemp threw the javelin 205'-1", earning an automatic NCAA qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships next month in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Kemp finished sixth in a stacked field of javelin throwers. Whitworth just missed a provisional NCAA qualifying mark in the 4x400 relay, coming across in 3:17.76. The team of Bofa, Ben Spaun, Dusty Caseria and Brandon Howell won the event. Caseria added a lifetime PR in the 1,500, finishing fifth with a time of 4:02.04. Whitworth's only woman competing on Saturday was Suzy Viducich, and she won her only event. Viducich high jumped a season-best 5'-3.75" (1.62 meters). The provisional NCAA qualifying mark for the women's high jump is 1.65 meters. Next week the Pirates will send some athletes south to Moscow, Idaho for the University of Idaho Invite on Saturday. The 4x400 relay, and other individuals will go to the prestigious University of Oregon Twilight in Eugene, also on Saturday. |
