SPOKANE, Wash. - Ben Spaun of Whitworth and Jessica Duran of Eastern Washington won the decathlon and the heptathlon, respectively, on Friday's second day of the Whitworth Multi Event Invitational, held today at Boppell Track in the Whitworth Pine Bowl. Men's Decathlon Results / Women's Heptathlon Results (PDF) Spaun won the decathlon with a score of 6,138, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. His won the 110 high hurdles in 15.72 and the 1,500 run in 4:32.35. Steven Bacon of EWU was second with 5,593 points, and Curtis Parrish of CC of Spokane finished third (5,482). There we're seven men competing in the decathlon. Duran won the heptathlon after posting a score of 4,427 points. She had the day's best mark in the long jump (16'-8.5"). Amanda Merrell and Ashley Wornell, both of Northwest Nazarene, followed in second (4,215) and third (3,953), respectively. Whitworth's Kristen Dormaier finished fourth with a score of 3,904. A score of 4,100 is NCAA DIII provisional qualifying. |
