OSHKOSH, Wis. - Whitworth freshman Cody Stelzer finished third in the high jump, while Ben Spaun and Kristen Dormaier completed the multi-event competitions and Emmanuel Bofa qualified for the finals of the 800 meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Stelzer (The Dalles, Ore.) cleared 6'-8", tying with four other jumpers. But Stelzer was awarded third place based on the numbers of misses for each of the competitors. Ted McMillan of Augustana won the event by jumping 6'-9". Stelzer earned his second All-America honor of the year following his 6th place finish at the NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships in March. Spaun (Jr., Wenatchee, Wash.), who went into the meet seeded 12th and was 12th after the first day of competition in the decathlon, finished in 9th place with 6,518 points. It is his best score ever. He posted a lifetime best in the 1,500 meter run, the competition's final event, with a time of 4:33.75. Dormaier (Jr., Hartline, Wash.) finished 17th in the heptathlon with 3,940 points. Her throw of 105'-4" in the javelin was a lifetime record. She moved up one spot in the final standings after the first day of competition. Bofa (Fr., Puyallup, Wash.) Finished fifth in his heat of the 800 with a time of 1:51.73, posting the eighth fastest time in the preliminaries and qualifying for tomorrow's championship final. His time is a lifetime best. On Saturday's final day of competition, Bofa will run the final of the 800, Kory Kemp (So., Redmond, Wash.) will throw the javelin and Jeff Kintner (Fr., Wenatchee, Wash.)
