SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Whitworth University track and field athletes picked up five NCAA Division III qualifying marks and broke two school records on Saturday at the Point Loma Nazarene Invitational.

Whitworth's men got both school records and four of the national qualifying marks, led by Emmanuel Bofa (So., Puyallup, Wash. - Emerald Ridge). Bofa automatically qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and broke Whitworth's record in the 800 meter run when he won the race on Saturday with a time of 1:51.01. The previous school record of 1:51.34 was set by his teammate, Brandon Howell, last season.

Cody Stelzer (So., The Dalles, Ore. - The Dalles), fresh off of his national runner-up finish in the high jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field meet, broke his own school record and earned an automatic NCAA outdoor qualifying mark by clearing 2.11 meters (6'-11") to win the event. His previous school record was 6'-10.75", set this winter and which will remain as Whitworth's indoor record in the event.

Ben Spaun (Sr., Wenatchee, Wash. - Wenatchee) won the 110 high hurdles with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.92 seconds. Kory Kemp (Jr., Redmond, Wash. - Bellevue Christian) threw the javelin 190'-5" to win the event and also provisionally qualify for the NCAA outdoor meet.

Joey VanHoomissen (Jr., Renton, Wash. - Kentridge) added a Pirate win in the hammer throw with a distance of 154'-6", while Jeff Kintner (So., Wenatchee, Wash. - Wenatchee) won the shot put with a toss of 47'-8.5".

Bofa and Howell both ran on the Whitworth 4x400 relay that won the event in a time of 3:18.38, the best mark in the Northwest Conference this season.

Elizabeth Mattila (Fr., Ferndale, Wash. - Ferndale) won the 400 hurdles in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:02.96, becoming the first Pirate woman to post a national mark this season. She added a third place finish in the 100 hurdles (15.51).

Kristen Dormaier had a busy day, winning the triple jump (34'-8.25") and the high jump (5'-1"). She also finished fourth in the long jump (16'-2.25") and the 100 dash (13.13).

Whitworth will enjoy two more days in California before heading home to host the 2008 Buc Scoring Invitational next Saturday in the Pine Bowl.
