SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth University track and field athletes managed to post several strong marks - despite an early morning snow storm - at today's Sam Adams Classic at Boppell Track. Sophomore Jeff Kinter highlighted the day with a national qualifying mark in the shot put. Kintner won the shot put with a mark of 51'-5.75", the top mark posted in the Northwest Conference this season. Kintner also had a season-best mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 166'-4". Colin Foshay swept the sprint races for the Bucs, winning the 100 in 11.37 and the 200 in 22.89. Brandon Howell continues to make a comeback from injury, winning today's 800 run in 1:55.20. Cody Stelzer took the day off is his specialty of high jump and won both the triple jump (40'-9.5") and the long jump (19'-10.25"). Freshman Elizabeth Mattila continued her outstanding season, winning three more events. She won both the 200 (27.29) and 400 (1:01.27) dashes, as well as the 100 hurdles (15.83). Joanne Mayer won the 5,000 in a season best time of 18:24.54. Several Pirates will travel to Newberg, Oregon for the NWC Multi-Event Championships, hosted by George Fox University on Monday and Tuesday.
