More NCAA Marks For Whitworth on Wednesday

SPOKANE, Wash. - Kory Kemp posted an automatic NCAA qualifying mark in the javelin, leading a Whitworth track and field effort at the CC of Spokane Field Event & Distance Carnival. Five Pirates either posted or improved national qualifying marks on Wednesday afternoon at Spokane Falls Community College.

Kemp, who finished third in the javelin at the 2007 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, guaranteed his return this season with a throw of 205'-9", which surpasses the NCAA DIII automatic qualifying standard of 205-1. In addition, freshman Alex Hymel improved his personal record and provisionally qualified for the NCAA championships with a throw of 193'-3".

Brandon Howell posted a strong provisional NCAA qualifying time in the 800 meter run by winning the event in 1:51.75. His time currently ranks fifth in DIII.

Jeff Kintner won the shot put and improved his NCAA Division III qualifying mark with a distance of 52'-11".

Kristen Dormaier not only earned a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump, she broke her own school record while winning the event with a distance of 37'-9.5". She had set the previous record of 37-0.25 earlier this spring. Dormaier also finished second in the long jump with a PR of 17'-11".

The NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships will take place May 22-24 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
