ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- While most of their teammates were taking the weekend off to be fresh for the upcoming Northwest Conference championship meet, several Whitworth field athletes had an outstanding afternoon at the Spike Arlt Invitational, hosted by Central Washington University.

As they have all season, the Pirate men's throwers dominated their events.

Jeff Kintner posted an automatic NCAA qualifying mark and season-best while winning the shot put with a distance of 56'-5.25". Danjuma Quarless (49'-11") finished third in the shot put.

Not to be outdone, Carter Comito improved his season best by more than 11 feet in the discus and earned a spot at the NCAA championships with a throw of 165'-3". Ron Whitley was second in the event (161-6).

Joseph Ingman earned the first provisional NCAA qualifying mark of his career with he took second in the javelin with a throw of 193'-0".

John Ingman had season-best marks in both the long jump (21'-0") and triple jump (42'-3.5"). His mark in the triple is the best this season for the Pirates.
